Understanding ADHD
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain regulates attention, impulse control and activity level. It is not a lack of intelligence or effort — it reflects genuine differences in brain networks involved in focus, motivation and self-management.
ADHD can look different from person to person. Some people mainly experience inattention — distractibility, forgetfulness, difficulty finishing tasks. Others experience hyperactivity or impulsivity. Many have a combined pattern. Across ages, ADHD can impact school, work, relationships, sleep and mental wellbeing, especially if unrecognised.
With the right supports, many people learn practical strategies and experience meaningful improvements in daily functioning.
Recognising ADHD
Difficulty starting tasks, chronic procrastination, and losing track of time even when highly motivated.
Feelings of inner restlessness, impatience, fidgeting, or always needing to be "on the go."
Starting many projects but struggling to complete them; feeling overwhelmed by multi-step tasks.
Interrupting conversations, making quick decisions without enough consideration, acting before thinking.
Misplacing items, forgetting appointments, or missing details despite genuine effort and good intentions.
Intense emotional responses, difficulty downshifting after stress, sensitivity to criticism or rejection.
Our Approach
A detailed clinical assessment covering developmental history, symptoms across settings, and relevant health factors — not just a questionnaire.
Your plan is tailored to your symptom profile, goals, health history and preferences — medication, therapy, lifestyle supports, or a combination.
Regular follow-ups tracking real-world outcomes — work function, sleep, mood, relationships — not just symptom scores. Adjustments made as needed.
For complex presentations, we coordinate shared care with psychiatrists and other specialists to ensure safe, consistent treatment.
CBT strategies, psychoeducation, sleep hygiene, exercise guidance, and practical environmental supports are core parts of care.
Our prescribing follows Queensland's regulated guidelines for ADHD medications including Schedule 8 psychostimulants where clinically appropriate.
